The Format

One Job
Each.

The Team Challenge Relay covers the full Championship course. Your team of 3 each takes one discipline — one swimmer, one mountain biker, one trail runner. You own your leg and hand off to the next.

Teams of 2 split the three disciplines any way they choose — one athlete takes two legs, the other takes one.

No triathlon experience required. You just need to be strong at your thing. Let your teammates handle the rest.

Who's It For

Some Teams Are Already
Planning Their Entry.

The Team Challenge is open to everyone — local businesses, community organisations, sports clubs, workplaces, or just three friends or family members who each have one strong leg.

No rivalry required. Though it tends to develop naturally once someone at the office finds out you entered.

Think the Whistler fire halls quietly keeping an eye on each other's times. Two local coffee shops who've been talking smack for years finally settling it on the trails. A company team making the trip up from Vancouver for a weekend that's half race, half team retreat. Or just you, your sibling, and a friend who can swim.

Whatever brings your team together — the course treats everyone the same.

Local Businesses
Coffee shops, bike shops, restaurants, trades — represent your crew and your community.
Community Organisations
Fire halls, SAR teams, clubs, schools — the bragging rights last all year.
Corporate Teams
A Whistler race weekend beats a conference room. Build your team, book the chalet, race the trails.
Friends & Family
No company required. One swimmer, one biker, one runner — that's all you need.
Athletes Building a Super Team
Know a strong open water swimmer? A technical MTB rider? A fast trail runner? You know what to do.

The Prize

Win Something
Worth Keeping.

The Whistler X Tri Team Challenge trophy isn't a plastic cup. It's a locally handcrafted piece built in the Sea to Sky — designed to sit on a desk, start conversations, and remind your team of what you did together on the trails of Whistler.

The fastest team overall takes it home!

Every member of the winning team gets their own finishers medal too. No sharing required.

The Process

How It Works

01
Build Your Team
2 or 3 people. Decide who swims, who bikes, who runs. No triathlon experience needed — just one strong discipline each.
02
Register on Race Roster
Each member registers individually. The captain registers first and creates the team name. Teammates then join from the drop-down list.
03
Train Your Leg
Spend summer focused on your discipline. Course-specific training plans are available — built by Kristian, who designed every metre of this course.
04
Race & Celebrate
Show up September 20. Race hard. Finish together. Post-race food, Athletic Brewing, prize draws, and the trophy ceremony await.
Questions

FAQ

Do we all need triathlon experience?
Not at all. Each athlete only does one discipline — your swimmer doesn't need to get on a bike, your runner never touches the water. You just need to be confident in your own leg. If you can swim in open water, ride singletrack, or run trails, you belong here.
What if we don't have a mountain bike?
No bike, no problem. Whistler has excellent MTB rental options right in the village. We recommend booking early as September is busy.

Does it have to be a company team?
Absolutely not. Anyone is welcome — three friends, a running club, a gym crew, a family team, a workplace group, a local business, or a community organisation. You just need 2 or 3 people and the will to race. That's it.
Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?
If your company needs to pay via invoice or PO rather than credit card, get in touch before registering and we'll sort it out.

How does team registration work?
Each team member registers and pays individually on Race Roster.

Step 1: The team captain registers first and creates the team name.
Step 2: Each additional member registers and selects their team from the drop-down menu.

Registration isn't complete until all members have registered and paid.
How does a 2-person team work?
One member does two disciplines while the other does one. You choose the split that suits your strengths — some options:
  • Member A swims · Member B mountain bikes and trail runs
  • Member A swims and mountain bikes · Member B trail runs
  • Member A swims · Member B mountain bikes · Member A trail runs
As long as exchanges happen at transition, any combination works.
What's included with registration?
Every team member gets the full Whistler X Tri race experience:
  • Custom high-quality swag
  • Whistler X Tri swim cap
  • Whistler X Tri sticker
  • Unique finisher's medal
  • Age group awards
  • Giant Moguls cookie — a Whistler institution
  • Apres food & Athletic Brewing NA Beer
  • Professional timing
  • Entry into the lucky prize draw
  • And if your team is fastest — a locally handcrafted Team Challenge trophy, yours to keep.
